Diamonds grown by high-pressure and high-temperature (HPHT) methods
represent the vast majority of near-colorless synthetic diamonds of melee size.
These diamond exhibit the phenomenon of phosphorescence after exposure to
short-wave ultra-violet light. The Melee Inspector features ultra-violet lamps to
excite any HPHT diamonds which will then phosphoresce. Suitable for use over
small areas (15mm x 15mm) to detect HPHT, CVD and treated diamonds of both
colorless and fancy colors. The glow can be readily detected with the camera
on a user's smart-phone.
